Past

Founded in 1921 by Hobart and Carlton Leonard, Leonard’s Brick & Concrete Works began in a small building in northern Davidson County with an idea and a self-made concrete block machine. 

During the early years, they operated as a manufacturer and masonry contractor. Among their many construction projects were the former elementary schools in the Hasty, Midway, and Reedy Creek communities.  With an increase in government and military construction during World War II and the 1940's, Leonard’s Brick & Concrete Works switched to production only, and concentrated on supplying the local area with quality concrete and lightweight blocks.  

As new materials became available, our company switched to producing only lightweight concrete masonry units.   In 1980, Leonard’s Brick & Concrete Works incorporated as Leonard Block Company. 

Present

We are proud to still be family-owned and operated, and one of the oldest family-owned block companies still in business.  Our production staff and commercial fleet operators bring decades of experience to our customer base. 

A new facility designed to supplement our current production plant is almost online and operational.  We will be able to manufacture additional products including a rough-face or split-face masonry unit, and various specialty products.

Future

As the masonry industry continues to evolve and grow, we will be there into the next hundred years.    Green building will be a guiding force for construction for the next generation, as sustainability and conservation as two important paths for our children to follow on this crowded planet.   Few products can boast of being naturally "green" and environmentally friendly as lightweight concrete blocks!
